Cindy, I agree with your review of Public Enemies. My kids are on a beach camping trip, so my husband and I had a "date night" last night and took in dinner and the movie. I enjoyed it, but I also found myself noticing the details which I normally won't do if I'm totally engrossed in the film. I usually need two or three viewings of a really good film before I begin to take in all the visuals.

Thanks for your thoughts on Public Enemies, ladies. We'll probably go see it in the next week or two. Regarding not being emotionally engaged, but interested - that's kind of the way I felt about American Gangster. I enjoyed watching it, but there was a detachment.

Hubby and I went to see Public Enemies today too.

We liked it... I agree with much of what Cindy said... and suggest it's well worth seeing, despite some caveats. It's a film for adults... an ambitious and visual treat, intelligently presented. If we don't go and support these films, they won't get made any more and that would be tragic.

I think that Sienna's dismissal from the cast was purely a business decision. A big project like RH demands a strong, recognizable female lead. Sienna Miller is very much an unknown quantity among most movie fans. Cate Blanchett is a brilliant actress with the chops to handle a project of this size of scope. From a marketing standpoint, people will look at the cast and say, "Wow! Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett! Must be a blockbuster! Gotta go see that one on Friday night!"...
