Since there isn't any other news, LOL, anyone have any new ideas for new posticons (that's the slightly larger icons used when you start a new post)? I'm a little bored with this set. We've had them for awhile.

Morning, Kittie. BTW, thanks for that Wordle url last night. I liked what you did, so I went to take a look and ended up saving the link. I'll give it a
try later, pretty cool.
Ideas for posticons, you mean like stealing some from another board? From yesterday's "ideal perve" comments. I know we've discussed this in the past (probably many times, lol) but attraction to a person is so much more than perving on their physical being. The brain is the sexiest part of the body, and if Russell wasn't intelligent, complex, and intriguing, I don't think I'd have been hanging around this long, regardless of whether his body habitus was East or Maximus or Ed Hoffman. The incredible acting talent, coupled with Max's looks, sure, got me looking on the net, the music lyrics drew me in, but what has kept me here has been the entire package...and no, not that one. From last night's comments about the US stealing TV shows from the UK, last night I saw a commercial touting the new Fall show which is a remake of the highly popular Oz show, Kath & Kim. It'll star Molly Shannon and Selma Blair. I guess it doesn't bother me if ideas are stolen or redone, if they're redone well. Maybe other countries don't have to steal ideas to remake from the US because they simply run the US shows, I don't really know. I wish I did get to see more of the UK shows, like Life on Mars, I haven't gotten BBC America in a few years, and try to catch some on PBS, but end up waiting for DVD.

and no, not that oneOh, you are such a liar! But you know, I sometimes like to seperate the body from the brain, so to speak, just for myself and for fun. But when you combine the body with the brain, i.e. the whole package ~ Enduring Love ~ |

Maybe other countries don't have to steal ideas to remake from the US because they simply run the US shows, I don't really know. There are many US shows on German television, but we've also had our share of attempted remakes of US shows over the years, especially US sitcoms, and a couple of years back there was an attempt to establish a late night talk show à la Letterman - but all those 'remakes' went terribly wrong. Terribly wrong. I feel it's partly because you can't really translate American shows into German, so to speak. I really think it's a cultural thing. In Germany, there is really no tradition of sitcoms, no matter how many tries there have been over time. Likewise with late night talk shows à la Letterman. Life On Mars, at least that's what it feels like to me, is a very very British show. And it works as good as it does only because it's British. I can't really imagine it translated into American.
Add to that the fact that I'm such a big fan of John Simm as Sam Tyler in Life On Mars, and there's no way for me to work up interest in the US remake. Some of you may know that there was a spinoff of Life On Mars on BBC earlier this year, called Ashes To Ashes. It was about a female police psychiatrist, who gets injured and ends up in 1984 in London, working for the Metropolitain Police there, where she meats Gene Hunt, Ray Carling and Chis Skelton. Back in the present day, she'd read Sam Tyler's notes on his time in 1973, so she has a pretty good idea what happened to her. But she clashes with Hunt all the same. At first, I was very reticent to watch this show, because it felt to me like just a lame rehash, like a selling out of the original idea. But in the end I couldn't resist, and I ended up enjoying it very much. But I think the key here was that it was the same people as Life On Mars that did the show, Matthew Graham, Tony Graham and Ashley Pharoah. They managed to find new ways to further develop their idea - and the original characters from Life On Mars. ~ Enduring Love ~ |

Ladies, ladies, I'm here at the airport to start my long day's journey into night...well actually it's technically into the morning light of
Sydney, and perving is the last thing on my mind! I'm more into just getting the day over with...but on second thought perhaps keeping my mind distracted
with some pleasant thoughts might be just the ticket to pass the time.
Anyway I'm off and looking forward to a fun trip. I'll have some company for the first week because my best friend, Shirley, will be joining me. It was touch and go as to whether family commitments would prevent her from going, but it looks like it's going to happen! I'll be on my own for the rest of my time down there, visiting friends and enjoying the footy. From Souths, it appears ManaseManuokafoa will be a Cowboy next year. http://www.rabbitohs.com.au/News/Club-News/Rabbitohs-Wish-Manuokafoa-Best-of-Luck.html

Oh, you are such a liar!Busted! Life on Mars is a show that sounds like it's right up my alley, I'll have to check to see if it's available in Region 1 DVD. I will check out the US version as well, though. I unfortunately have never seen the UK Touching Evil, either, but I did very much enjoy the US version, with Jeffrey Donovan. It didn't make it to season 2, though. ETA: Have a great fun time, CGee, I know you will. I'm very happy Shirley will be joining you for part of it.

I'm not sure about season 2, though. But if you need help with that, just contact me. I wouldn't have been interested in sticking around messageboardland for 8+ years for a guy that didn't have something going on between the ears, and Russell just happened to be as intriguing as he is good to look at, IMO.It's just 5+ years in my case, but other than that I totally agree with you. ~ Enduring Love ~ |

LIfe on Mars was quite original... and very Brit...
But I'm still interested in seeing how it would be translated to an American version. Too bad Kelly isn't still involved. His shows are generally entertaining and intelligent. Imperoli was quite good as a Soprano, and he's well based in theater, so I don't look for him dumbing down Sam Tyler. And Colm Meany [Mystery, Alaska] is quite a fine character actor, so his Gene will be interesting at least. Oh well.. for a very American series, I recommend Jeffrey Donavan in Burn Notice, set in Miami. It's a lot of fun.... sort of a dramedy, ie, a tongue in cheek drama on USA Network. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810788/ --------------------- Au Revoir CGee. Have a great trip. --------------------- I'm another who simply cannot maintain interest in a man unless he has an intriguing brain, which Russell does, in spades. So... a fan still, after all this time. ![]()

Thanks, Zhora, I'll definitely take a look for the DVD of Life on Mars.
BC, I should have mentioned that. I think part of the reason I liked Touching Evil so much was because of Jeffrey Donovan. I really loved Burn Notice last year and am very glad it's coming back, very soon, too, I think. Having Bruce Campbell doesn't hurt either, and Sharon Gless as his mother is a hoot. She's on the semi-final list for Supporting Actress for the Emmys, as did Rose Byrne for Damages.

Hello!
Thank you for your good wishes! CGee: Have a very very nice trip! Resuming yesterday´s comments, of course I am a fan ( 6 years! , since I saw ABM) because he is so good and talented and charismatic, a very sensitive and intelligent actor, and so on, but.....I also like to see him physically fit. It seems that YUma will be released in September here, so we will finally be able to meet Ben, who, I can see, is one of the characters you like most, isn´t he? After one year, and so many pics, and images, and scenes watched on Internet I am curious to see the reaction. For the moment, AG DVD , single and double, has come out so I was able to see the alterntive ending, which I like much more that the one of the theatrical version. What do you think? |

I'm glad Yuma is coming soon, virginia, I was going to suggest getting the DVD if the movie wasn't going to show up there soon. I think you're
really going to like both the movie and Ben, it is one of Russell's best and most charismatic roles, IMO, and I don't think I'm alone there.
As for AG, I enjoyed seeing the alternate ending but I still prefer the original. I like seeing Frank Lucas standing outside the prison gates, alone and pretty insignificant in what is a much changed new world.

I agree sometimes it's fun just to look and enjoy, but I wouldn't have been interested in sticking around messageboardland for 8+ years for a guy that didn't have something going on between the ears, and Russell just happened to be as intriguing as he is good to look at, IMO.Totally agree and it's been 8 years for me too. Believe me that's a first for me. I like his lust for life. I like much more that the one of the theatrical version.I liked the theatrical version because it's what he deserved.........seeming to be alone after all the lives he ruined. The alternate one did at least have Russell in it and it did show their friendship but I didn't think it worked as well. IMHO. CGee have fun down under....as if you wouldn't and say hi to the bunny's. ![]() |

Morning...
Re: the perv comments, ditto to pretty much what everybody's said: I like ALL of Russell's "parts" as well as most of the parts he's played, plus the parts of my life that he's influenced. He's definitely become part of my life. Have a nice trip, CGee: you travel more than anybody I've known!!

Have a wonderful trip, CGee! I have to get to Australia again some time.
My perfect ending to American Gangster would have been Frank Lucas coming out, looking around, looking lost, and then seeing Richie leaning against the car, mirroring the scene outside the church, then cut to black. I would mainly like to see that because it was true. All the false friends were gone and who was there to meet him? The guy who put him away. The relationship between the two men fascinates me. Sometimes you cannot improve on reality. When I watched the real Jimmy Braddock/Max Baer fight on the CM DVD, there is a wonderful moment when the bell rings at the end of the fight where Baer embraces Braddock. It was such a tribute to his courage and strength as a fighter. Then in the real version, Jimmy goes over to Max and shakes hands after having been proclaimed the champion. In the movie version, it is the other way around. I like the reality better. I thought it showed Braddock's generosity. I watched In Bruges last night. The acting by the three principles was fantastic. Colin Farrell was wonderful, both funny and heart breaking. I think he is just going to get better and better. The movie itself was a little too dark for this Pollyanna, although the bit with the three Americans was funny. My goodness, is that the way we look to the rest of the world?
Happy 4th everybody. I will spend tomorrow cleaning the house and the patio furniture, as we are having friends over on Saturday. The Demon Bunny of Crowe Land |

Made it to LA so here's the thing....the flight is delayed because if they took off on time they would get to Sydney too early and the airport would be
closed. So what's the point of scheduling a flight time if you can't take off on time??? Sigh...
When you have a 15 hour flight staring you in the face, 'delay' is the last thing you want to hear. Onward and hopefully upward.
