I'm surprised there's no thread yet for today. Is everyone relaxing on this post-holiday Saturday?
As usual, I'm off to work in about 90 minutes. And I don't see any news to share today.
Have a lovely Saturday, everyone.

Hello susi... I'm so glad you dropped in to say hello. I've wondered how things are for you. Best wishes for your parents...
--------------- thanks for starting us off with a new thread for today babz ..... Hubby and I were off on our usual Sat AM bike ride. We have to leave the house earlier as the weather is getting so very hot and humid... typical Florida in the summer, but we're also being "blessed" with heavy thunderstorms every afternoon, so anything that needs doing outside must be taken care of in the morning. It's not even noon, and the clouds are building up already. The beach is so beautiful... this morning a huge flock of pelicans was flying a V formation down at the edge of the surf... ![]() |

Morning, ladies. Hey, susi!! Nice to see you, I hope you get to come by more often.
Well, we made it to our BBQ last evening but I wasn't sure for a few minutes. Holy Gullywasher! We had the mother of all Monsoon storms late afternoon. First one of the year and the biggest one I've experienced in a few years. This is my 7th summer here so I should be used to them by now but this one was fierce and they still scare the pants off me. The water came down so hard, so fast, the gutters couldn't hold it and it spilled over to look like a solid waterfall on the side of the house. The water gushed down our sloped property and flowed across the road like a river. The first two years we were here the monsoons washed out part of our driveway, which at the time was dirt/gravel. After that we had it asphalted. Anyway, we need the rain, and it did cool it down considerably, I love the fresh, clean air after a rain. The BBQ was 20 miles away and it rained a bit off and on but they didn't get the huge monsoon sucker that we got. I didn't find any Crowe news either, so I've been watching a few trailers for upcoming movies I'm looking forward to. I absolutely loved the book, Blindness, by Jose Saramago and am really looking forward to the movie; Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. I also watched the trailer from The Day the Earth Stood Still, it looks completely different from the old one with Michael Rennie. Of course I love my sci-fi anyway but this looks good to me; Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connolly, Kathy Bates, John Cleese. I'm not watching anymore The Dark Knight trailers nor reading reviews, I want to experience it firsthand as much as I can. I just saw at Kris Tapley's that Christian and Heath are the cover of the current EW and has a long article about it. He says there is a spoiler in a paragraph on the 4th page, so I'm not reading that, either. I think we'll go see Hancock today. It's gotten some bad reviews from critics and some mixed reviews, but I've been interested since I saw the first trailer. I read the critics but I certainly don't use them as guidelines for choosing movies. Maybe they think it's time to knock Will Smith down a peg or two, I wouldn't be surprised. They review a sickening mess like Wanted positively and then pan Hancock. Well, I haven't seen it yet but I have a feeling I'll like it better than Wanted.

Hi dears
Hope everybody has had a great holiday yesterday, a good Saturday to all of us! I saw that our Susi did a fast pit stop in here yesterday, we miss you dear, hope your parents could have better days. According to the forum of the movie at IMDB: Ridley Scott's most recently completed film, "Body of Lies", is set to be released on October 10, 2008. But before it can get there a few changes are still being made.
......
Batman/The Dark Night will reach USA theaters on July 18th, and I believe that there is a possibility that the trailer could be
at some movie“s sites too at the same time.
So, if the info is correct, we are near of seeing the trailer.

Cindy, in fairness, most critics seem to like Will well enough, in fact many decry that he's certainly the best thing in Hancock, but is unable to save the
film despite his best efforts.
I'm with you about Dark Knight tho. I really liked CB as Batman in the first, and look forward to this. I don't want to know too much. I'll read later, after I've watched it. Russell is still apparently under the radar. Murph has put up a new blog on books or magazine articles that we'd think would make good films... for some reason, the post with the book I suggested, "A Walk in the Woods", didn't post, only it's follow up piece, "A Sunburned Country". I think a "Walk" would make a hilarious film, with Russell not as Bill, but as his friend Katz, the former college room mate, klutz, out of shape, bon vivant, inept and irreverent hiking companion.... ![]() |

Cindy, I saw Hancock on Thursday and really enjoyed it! Yes, the ending is a bit cheesy, but other than that I don't know what the critics' problem
with it is. It's a perfect summer blockbuster popcorn movie.
When you go, watch out for two familiar faces in the conference/presentation scene right at the beginning of the movie. A "sickening mess like Wanted"? Oh brother.... ~ Enduring Love ~ |

Good morning, way early morning for me.
Jet lag is a fascinating thing and the good thing I look forward to with Oz jet lag is that it's the only time I'm wide awake for a sunrise! Here's sunrise this morning over the Opera House:
I'm looking forward to Batman, too and I was happy to see that it opens here the same day it opens in the US. Off to get some caffeine!

Beautiful pictures of the Opera House...
------------- We noted the rumor via AICN, that Sam Riley, star of Control, was being considered to play Robin Hood in Nottingham... keeping in mind that rumors also mentioned Chris Bale, and both of the rumors are unsubstantiated... I still think ya'll might find this interesting, a 25 minute video interview [on the junket for Control], with Sam Riley, by David Poland. In the Dec. 2007 interview, during the first few minutes, Riley mentions that he had imagined himself as Robin Hood as a child playing at being a movie actor. Later he says he'd love to play a swashbuckler among other roles, including a western. At about 19 minutes in, he and David talk about using the "c" word... very interesting... he's quite sensitive to how women would be offended, but notes that in some culture groups, it's used as a greeting. I really rather took a liking to him after watching this interview. He's pleasant, low ego, quick witted and articulate. He also seems to have his head screwed on straight. And, he's appealing, reminding me of Orly. Alas, he smokes the whole 25 minute interview. http://www.iklipz.com/MovieDetail.aspx?MovieID=96e59a0c-a895-4c30-a8cd-a0a54ba826c2 ![]() |

He is on an overseas business trip, taking in New York and China "The New York side of things relates to some banking work and I'll be in China for a cricket project that I am working on," he said. "I worked as executive chairman for two years without pay, so I've got to do work now." Holmes a Court said he had no concerns about leaving he club. "We are in good shape, especially with a rejuvenated Shane Richardson in charge and with Jason Taylor getting strong support from John Lang." ETA - Thanks also, BC, and Mammi, my little Bunny car is going to be lonely without me so I'm sure he's appreciate a nice ride! LOL!

John Adams | ||

Cal and Karen, I saw your posts about "John Adams" and had to smile. Three years ago you two were among the very first to welcome me to the boards,
and here we are agreeing about "JA". Hubby and I watched the series yesterday again, too -- we have the DVD set but watched cable special; we'll
watch the set when we're in our 90s -- and ITA with you. Hubby watched the tears stream down my face for the umpteenth time as the vote is taken, and then
that silence. Knowing that they have now done what has never been done before...that there is no turning back...and what lies ahead. That these only
all-too-human individuals -- some extraordinarily gifted and visionary; most just good and decent -- and buoyed by their countrymen and women stepped out into
a void only with each other.... That silence. Like Mr. Franklin says to Mr. Adams, I too was quite carried out of myself. And Abigail, Laura Linney is
just luminous. Their relationship truly was love in the highest sense as David McCullough reminds us of the adage -- they did just not gaze adoringly at each
other, but looked out into the world together with the same vision.
And of course I had to watch "1776" (yeah, I have that DVD, too). I know John Adams would have disliked the sitortion of history, but the heart and spirit of the proceedings are evoked -- even the most lamentable aspects. I know, I am such a geek.... Hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Ooo, thanks, CGee, gorgeous pics of the sunrise, I'm saving them in my Oz pics folder.
A "sickening mess like Wanted"? Oh brother....Zhora, let me rephrase that. Hubs and I both enjoyed Hancock. I guess I have to go read some of those reviews, now. I know several critics who thought the last act was a total mess, well, I don't know what their problem is. I was clutching my hands together so hard at one point I didn't even realize I was doing it and at another point I even teared up a bit. It was definitely an original idea, a different sort of superhero movie, and I very much enjoyed it. Yes, I did notice the two guys in the confererence room, right away, and they both had speaking parts, too.

This is probably going to be too vague of a request, but here goes. Does anyone have the address for the website that we were able to get really high
resolution images from some of RC's movies (AGY, AG are the ones that come to mind)? I lost my bookmarks recently and can't remember what the site was
called to search it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This might be one of them, ProEv, this site has always had some great high res pics. Do a Search and then Bilder for the photos.

It is so great to hear from you, susi. Thank you for checking in. I am glad things are going a bit more smoothly.
OMG, CGee, those photos are fabulous. They make me want to jump on a plane and head Down Under. Usually on a vacation, after about 2-1/2 weeks or so, I am ready to come home, but after three weeks in Australia, I was like, "Sell the house. Send the cats." When we took off heading home, we had a great view of Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. (sniffle, sniffle) We had friends and family over for a swim and barbeque today, so I am a bit knocked out. The weather was beautiful and I found that when baby Luca is fussy, sitting with him on me facing out in the rocking chair, rocking and singing to him soothes him. I sing 60's folk songs to him. He seems to like them, which is a good sign. On the other hand, I have one of the world's worse singing voices, so I hope that isn't a sign he will be tone-deaf like our side of the family. Some of our friends mentioned that they had seen Hancock and really liked it. They thought it was funny and in unexpected ways. The Demon Bunny of Crowe Land
