"Whether or not it was a cheap shot, it's just footy," Wing said.

"It happens. I'm not one to cry over spilled milk. I can appreciate how intense the build-up was to the game and in those opening minutes, he's a young bloke playing his first game for a new club. He would have wanted to make an impression.

"I guess I was just at the wrong angle in the wrong position at the wrong time. The only thing I'm crying about is being forced to watch the footy instead of playing it. That's what hurts the most."

"That's what you do to an old player who's played for you, you work them over," Wing said.

"That's just the way it is. I'm sure Freddy [Roosters coach Brad Fittler] wouldn't have told them, 'Go out and break his legs, go out and crack his head open'.

"It's disappointing and probably a bit embarrassing for me to only have lasted eight minutes, but I'll bounce back.

"I've had a few calls from the Roosters. Freddy texted me, I chatted to Mini [Anthony Minichiello], Lopini Paea was probably the first one to call me, Fitzy [Craig Fitzgibbon].

"It was nice of them to get in touch. They didn't have to do that. Freddy just sort of said, 'Head up, mate. You'll be back'. Freddy is a man of few words but he says what he means."

Wing held no hard feelings towards Brown.

"You walk off the field. Maybe you get one back on them next time, and maybe you don't. I'll just leave it on the field. I'm not bitter," he said.
