I cracked up at the Gary Oldman quote about Ledger's possible reaction to the Oscar nom. Very much a man who wanted to be an actor and not a movie star. On a bright note, today's a big day in the US - Inauguration Day. I confess to not knowing anything about Wallace, not sure I'd even heard of him before he died. Ting, thanks for scanning the Heath article, I thought it was excellent. Heath sounds like he was an interesting young man, exuberant about life and dedicated to becoming the best actor he could be. He obviously loved his daughter and his family and he was very talented, a great loss. Thanks to maria, a nice honor for Russell, Geoffrey, Nicole and Cate. According to the paper Russell has been at the farm which is one reason we haven't seen or heard much about him. Now it's the Australian public's turn, with the actor joining her fellow Australian Academy Award winners Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush to adorn a series of stamps celebrating actors. The stamps will be unveiled by Australia Post at a gala luncheon in Darling Harbour on Friday. Australia Day is marked each year with stamps celebrating the achievements of prominent citizens. Rush is the only one who won an Oscar for playing an Australian character - the pianist David Helfgott in the film Shine. Nashville-based Kidman will skip the luncheon as she will be addressing the G'Day USA dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. She is then due to fly to Rome to resume filming on the musical Nine. Blanchett, who is performing in the Sydney Theatre Company's The War Of The Roses, Rush and Crowe, who has been at his property at Nana Glen near Coffs Harbour, preparing for his role as Robin Hood in Nottingham, are all expected to attend on Friday. Last year Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, Victor and Loti Smorgon, Lady (Mary) Fairfax and Frank Lowy were honoured with stamps for their philanthropic work.

Thanks for adding to my vocabulary, Barbie. However, may I humbly point out that you were referring to "Gran Torino" and not "Slumdog Millionaire" Some in the Hmong community here in my state say some parts of the Hmong subject matter were laughable and not in a good way.

I'd love to see him work with Russell. I have the over the top coverage on the TV behind me. I admit I haven't gotten into all the hoopla, but I'm very mindful of the historic moment. I just fear there are such high expectations for Obama, that he is bound to disappoint some ... there is so much to do, and it won't be easy working with Congress and all the diverse special interests. Today, there's tons of good will, but tomorrow, the hard work starts, and opponents will dig in, ready to fight for their turf. We pulled in late, did a bit of shopping then ducked into the Four Seasons on 57th to get a drink and keep warm since no cabs were to be found in the doldrums of the dreaded shift change. It's a nicer day here today, cold but not spittin' snow. We're watching all the history being made in DC today. A friend is down in the thick of it. She got to the Mall at 5AM and she called to report it was jammed but the mood is festive and as cold as they feel, not many are complaining. Barbie, I didn't get a chance to post again yesterday and I wanted to answer you. If you learned about Mickey Rourke's complex life through his own words in interviews and not second hand through articles tabloid and otherwise, then I owe you an apology. I overreacted, partly in response to your repeated comments on the Page 6 blurb that I found "tiresome". Reading your post again I could see that you weren't necessarily judging Mr. Rourke but more empathizing with his troubled life. Oh, and when you're criticizing me ... please take a little care "quoting". I used the word verisimilitude to describe the effectiveness of the amateur actors appearing in Slumdog Millionaire. It was a different post, different topic Sorry, but just to be clear, I emphasized the word 'verisimilitude' I didn't quote you. I don't think vocabulary is proprietary. One can only hope that the future will be better, no matter how grim the economy may look at present. I wish President Obama all the luck in the world. Zhora re-enacted Prison Break today. When I came home from work just now, I opened the living room door.....and there she stood, waiting to get out. That was a bit of a surprise. I'm not entirely sure how she did it, but apparently the managed to pry the door of the cage open a bit (it's in the top of the cage) and squeeze through it.......collar and fixateur and all. And that although I've been securing the cage door with a bit of rope. I guess I'll use a whole lot more rope from now on. But everything seems to be fine. We were lucky. ~ Enduring Love ~

Unfortunately I'm not sure how much longer she'll have to stay in there while I'm gone......at least until the fixateur is gone, which will be another few weeks. But even then, I don't know yet if I will be allowed to let her go free around my place. I don't know how "delicate" the newly healed knee will be. Maybe, to prevent her from injuring it again right away, I'll have to restrict her movements for a while longer. I will know more when it happens. I just know that we are both ready for it to be over. ~ Enduring Love ~

The storyline in the book is kinda slow and boring IMO. I was a bit pessimistic when I first heard it was made into a film. But now I'm excited! Although it makes me wonder to see why RC's name appear first as the lead actor (because his character in the book is only secondary), it makes me jumping with JOY!! YAY for RC being made into a stamp!! This has bring ideas for me to bother my friends in Oz to send letters with his stamps attached all over the envelope. Woohooo!! Dare I hope for the Australian Gov't to finally grant the Oz citizenship to Russ next Jan 26?
