Good morning, ladies. It seems you northeasteners are heading for more storms this weekend, well, maybe except for CathiF and CGee, lol. Stay safe on those roads and stay warm at home. The news keeps replaying that video from Pittsburgh of the icy hill with cars just having a good old demolition derby trying to get down it.

We saw The King's Speech yesterday, lovely lovely film and I know now why Colin Firth is going to win the Oscar and he should win the Oscar. Also terrific work by Geoffrey Rush, Helena BC and Guy Pearce. I'd actually prefer to see this movie win over The Social Network and I really liked that movie too.

There are lots of names being bandied about and suggested and rumored for ASIB but as far as I know the only ones who were really seriously mentioned were Will Smith back when Joel Schumacher was thinking about directing and Russell Crowe when Nick Cassevetes was going to direct. Last night I saw an article from April where one of the producers did say that Russell was in negotiations. That was the time that Russell also corroborated that he was talking with them about it. That same producer is still attached as one of the producers so we'll see.

Wellll, do you think Hooper, Firth et al knew they were making something 'special' when they were filming TKS? Not necessarily, most times they all hope to make the best movie they can and hope for the best...that it is special and that the audience likes it.

Do I think The Man with the Iron Fist will be Oscar material? I doubt it but that doesn't mean it can't be something special, or at least entertaining. It sounds unique and unlike anything Russell has done before so we should give it a chance, even if it's not 'our thing' so to speak. I just watched Russell on Charlie Rose again before erasing it and it reminded me that Russell is confident in RZA's abilities and I imagine he has some faith in the project or he wouldn't be doing it.

We don't even know if Russell will be involved in ASIB and I was just complaining about the plethora of remakes the other day. However, if Russell takes the movie and with Clint E directing I'd say it has a good chance of being a good movie.


Speaking of The King's Speech, I forgot to mention that before I saw the movie yesterday I'd read an interesting article that had me thinking a bit during the movie. The man who wrote the script said that he had wanted Paul Bettany to play the part that eventually went to Colin. I couldn't help thinking a couple of times how that might have changed the movie, it might have been just a special, but different. The only thing I had trouble buying in the movie was Guy playing Colin's older brother. There are only 7 years difference in age but still. It was a tiny thing, though, so I thought of it and then forgot about it.

No, I had no problem with the Irwin segment, I found it very poignant. I don't think it's at all unusual that Robert watches videos of his father every day, he even said it's almost like having him there with them. One great regret that I have is that I have no video of my Justin so can never again hear him speaking and joking around as he did. His namesake, little Justin, will have only pictures and our words to get to know his uncle.
